Framing an Existing Mirror

1

Measure your mirror

Measure all four sides. Mirrors are often not perfectly square, so measure each side.

2

Choose frame style

Frame kits (MirrorMate, etc.) or DIY with molding from home store. Match bathroom style.

3

Clean mirror edges

Wipe down with rubbing alcohol where frame will attach. Must be clean for adhesive.

4

Apply frame

Start with top piece, then sides, then bottom. Most use adhesive strips. Press firmly.

Replacing the Mirror

Warning: Builder-grade mirrors are often glued directly to drywall. Removal can damage the wall. Have spackle and paint ready.

1

Prepare for removal

Cover vanity with towels. Wear gloves and safety glasses. Have helper ready.

2

Remove clips or adhesive

Unscrew mirror clips if present. For glued mirrors, use wire or pry bar behind mirror to break adhesive.

3

Repair wall if needed

Scrape off adhesive residue, patch holes with spackle, sand smooth, touch up paint.

4

Hang new mirror

Use appropriate hardware for mirror weight. Find studs or use heavy-duty anchors. Level carefully.
