Installing Floating Shelves
Find studs or plan anchors
Use stud finder. If no studs where you need them, use toggle bolts or heavy-duty drywall anchors.
Mark level line
Use a level and pencil to mark exactly where bracket or shelf rail goes. Double-check level.
Drill pilot holes
Pre-drill holes smaller than your screws. Install anchors if not going into studs.
Mount bracket or rail
Screw bracket to wall securely. Check level again before fully tightening.
Attach shelf
Slide shelf onto bracket or secure with included hardware. Shelves with hidden brackets look cleanest.
Placement Guidelines
| Location | Height Recommendation |
|---|---|
| Above toilet | 12-18" above tank (lowest shelf) |
| Next to mirror | Eye level or slightly above |
| In shower | Chest height for easy access |
| Multiple shelves | 8-12" apart vertically |
Shelf Materials for Bathrooms
Good for Bathrooms
- • Glass (tempered)
- • Metal (stainless, coated)
- • Waterproof MDF
- • Sealed/painted wood
- • Plastic/acrylic
Avoid
- • Unsealed wood (warps)
- • Particle board (swells)
- • Non-tempered glass
- • Uncoated iron (rusts)
Pro Tips
- •Weight limits: Check shelf's weight rating. Don't overload with heavy items.
- •Use baskets: Woven or wire baskets on shelves hide clutter while staying organized.
- •Decorative function: Mix practical items (towels, toiletries) with decorative pieces (plants, candles).
- •Match metals: Shelf brackets should match other bathroom hardware (towel bars, faucet).
