Why Before Photos Matter
Before photos serve multiple purposes in your bedroom update project:
- •Track progress: See how far you've come during and after your project
- •Plan better: Review photos to identify issues you might miss in person
- •Share your work: Before/after comparisons are satisfying to share
- •Insurance/records: Document the condition of your space
Essential Shots to Take
1
Wide shots from each corner
Stand in each corner and capture the full room. This shows the overall layout and how furniture relates to the space.
2
The bed area
Capture the bed, headboard, nightstands, and any wall decor above. This is usually the focal point.
3
Windows and window treatments
Document current curtains, blinds, or bare windows. Note how light enters the room.
4
Closet (doors open)
Show current organization state, closet system, and any clutter issues.
5
Close-ups of problem areas
Dated light fixtures, worn hardware, scuffed walls, or anything you plan to address.
Photo Tips for Best Results
- • Use natural light: Open curtains/blinds and shoot during the day
- • Keep it real: Don't clean up excessively—document the actual state
- • Shoot at chest height: This gives the most natural perspective
- • Turn on all lights: Shows current lighting situation
- • Take more than you think: You can always delete extras later
- • Note the date: Create a folder with the date for easy reference
Pro Tips
- •Mark your spots: Put tape on the floor where you stand for each shot. Take afters from the exact same spots.
- •Include a reference: A book or phone in frame helps show scale.
- •Back up immediately: Upload to cloud storage or email to yourself. Phone photos get lost.
